dreams...

Mysterious things they are.

I've got a rather memorable one last night but... it was so straightforward it could have been real or based on memories.

Someone else I know had a much more bizarre dream. A place with... people praying or performing some ritual. A piece of roast chicken on one hand. A lady giving birth. yes. LOL WTF.

news

There was breaking news yesterday for many people who intended to apply for Australian PR's, myself included.

However, upon further investigation, it is highly likely that I am NOT affected. Engineers win. Neither are most of the people who graduated with me including the accounting students. The latest changes affected those who are using work experience to get bonus points. However, students graduating after mid 2010 will be affected, sigh...

For anyone who's curious enough to know more, I might make a post about my findings, in a more organised manner than the DIAC's web site. Which isn't too bad really if, everything wasn't split in so many pdf files.

Sigh...

I very much prefer to stay here and hopefully I get that wish. You know what's so fucked up about my own country?

The murderer gets away with the murder, and sends an assassin to eliminate all those who have evidence of his wrongdoing.

The thief gets away with the theft, and sends thugs to attack those who work honestly.

The racist gets away with his bigotry, because of his connection to the earlier murderer. Then again, even that isn't necessary in Malaysia, assuming your racism isn't targeted to the majority race. For the latter case, prepare for a world of pain.

The rich rule over the poor, because the rich can use their money to make even more money. The rich can get anything, lawful or not, done, with the right amount of money. When the poor complain about the condition of our country, the rich tell them to "change their lifestyles" as they continue driving their Bentleys and Mercedes Benz.

The father of all this shit happening in the country is spewing more shit from his mouth internationally, being a fucking embarrassment to my country. The world must be bewildered as to how we could have accepted him for 22 years!

Australia might have its own racists, but you know what? The government actually TRIES to stop it, instead of encouraging it for the sake of staying in power.

time to dream for a while

I need a job... so at least I can start somewhere with those dreams. Sigh...

I want this:

1999 Honda Prelude VTI-R

2.2 manual, 200 horsepower, front-wheel drive. Not to mention being a Prelude. My dream car since 10 years ago. OK, well, not quite the same generation of Prelude but... that generation got too old. You know, sometimes it's time to move on...

Or this:

1995 Honda Accord VTi

2.2 manual, 140 horsepower. Less power but twice the amount of doors, a lot more space inside and a lot more affordable than a Prelude. A very practical car but if Honda's reputation is to believed, it should be almost as fun to drive as its two-door cousin. At $5,500 I might just consider this, one day...

Or if I had enough money this:

2007 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 TDI

Reasons:

- I like the VW Golf but I don't like hatchbacks. A Golf Sedan is YAY.

- I want low running costs. Using a super efficient 2.0 turbodiesel engine helps.

- Vee Dub! Representing Deutschland, jaaaaaaaa~!

- 6-speed manual!

$19,900, hmm... one day. One day... or maybe by that time I'll just get a Silvia and say "screw petrol consumption!".

of boycotts and stuff

For all the meaning of the idiom "hangat-hangat tahi ayam", that is, hot news cool down quick, in Malaysia... not all news are apparently.

This ain't political this time, more to do with religious news.

Related to my religion.

I find it astounding how a large number of Muslims seem to be so sensitive to certain things that constitutes as mockery that they ignore the far larger issues in the world.

ONE newspaper in Denmark and ONE filmmaker in Holland made fun of our prophet (PBUH). Let's boycott both the countries entirely regardless of whether or not the companies and employees affected had anything to do with the mockery or not.

France banned the wearing of the hijab (tudung) for women, which to me is really dumb if they think it's because the hijab is a symbol of oppression. So much for freedom of religion. How about the women who wore them out of choice, people like my own mum and many of my Muslim female friends? This, to me, is far more serious and not only a mockery of Islam but a mockery of what the European Union should stand for. So let's all boycott French products then! Don't buy Peugeot, Renault and Citroen (*cough*Naza*cough*)! Tell Proton to stop using those French engines for their Savvy too.
That probably is worth way more than a bunch of consumer products boycotted.

Oh and then there's Turkey. One of the largest Islamic countries in the world, 2nd biggest military in NATO (after the United States!). Banned the hijab from parliament and universities, wtf? OK, at least for Turkey I do understand the source of their secularism, because of how the Ottomans abused Islam to oppress the people back in the old days. Hello, Ministry of Defence, stop buying your armoured vehicles and guns from them la. That probably is worth way more than a bunch of consumer products boycotted.

Oh wait, AMERICA! They invaded Afghanistan and Iraq. OMG. WAR ON ISLAM. Boycott them! Malaysia Airlines, stop buying Boeing planes! Every Boeing plane you buy contributes MILLIONS to the Yanks.
That OBVIOUSLY is worth way more than a bunch of consumer products boycotted. Buy Airbus instead. Oh wait, the French have a large stake in Airbus too. BOYCOTT!!! Let's buy Antonov and Ilyushin planes from Russia instead. Oh wait Russia is anti-Islam too! Look what they did to Chechnya and Afghanistan! Boycott! Let's make our own planes!

You see, my point is...

No, not that we should boycott France, America, Russia or Mongolia (ooops sensitive word hehe). My point is that the world economy today is INTERCONNECTED, boycotting consumer products is really nonsense because at best you're reducing some companies' income by a few percent, which in turn affects the employees, most of which want nothing to do with whatever issue that caused the boycott in the first place. Muslims are among those employees too, in case you didn't realise.

Boycotting the real sources of income, like planes, on the other hand, will just screw ourselves up. Look at it this way, it's not just the "Muslim world" and "Western world" that can't live without the other. Most, possibly all countries today need to be part of the global community to survive or to at least give an acceptable quality of life to their people. Look at North Korea's Juche policy and what it brought to the North Koreans.

At worst, and the more likely scenario happening today, you're giving the message that:

- Muslims are an overly sensitive bunch when it comes to their historical figures.

- Mockery of the prophet (PBUH) is far worse than abuse of the religion.

- When Saudi Arabia's government misuses the religion to oppress women, outsiders and people who happen to disagree with the government, it's okay. Chopping the heads off political dissidents or dumping them in jail is okay. When ONE Danish magazine insults our prophet, it's NOT okay. The WHOLE country must be blamed.

- When Sudan's government misuses the religion to murder countless innocent non-Muslims, it's okay. When ONE Dutch filmmaker insults our religion, it's NOT okay. The WHOLE country must be blamed.

- When numerous people misuse the religion to justify the sometimes brutally slow and torturous deaths of innocents (think Iraq beheadings), it's okay. When some Muslim villagers in Southern Thailand are killed, it's NOT OKAY. Well of course it's not okay, innocents dying is BAD. But it also somehow translated to be BUDDHISM VS ISLAM HOLY WAR. The WHOLE country must be blamed.

- When Malaysia's government misuses the religion and spreads racial segregation and tension to divide the people for political gain, it's okay. When ONE rapper decided to make fun of the Adhan (call to prayer), alongside OTHER cultures (not just Malay-Muslim), it's NOT okay. His ENTIRE race gets insulted. His family threatened.

My stand as a Muslim in all this is that Muslims should get their priorities right.
Get rid of that siege mentality. The rest of the world isn't out to get you. The rest of the world is out for dominance, i.e. to be the best. If Muslims keep dwelling in revenge and grudges, nothing's gonna change but for the worse. Respect is earned. If you expect the world to respect us, we should look at ourselves and what we've contributed to mankind as a whole. And improve on that.

Yes, the Western media can sometimes be biased (again, differs from place to place) at times. Remember, though, that without the many sparks that we Muslims ourselves created, there wouldn't have been fires for others to add fuel to.

Again, I wouldn't want to lump all Muslims in one group since like any other huge community, there are countless different ways of thinking within. I guess my rant is mostly targeted to people who think Holland and Denmark are evil countries who should be boycotted until they suffer. At the same time, there are other countries, both Muslim and otherwise, that have done far more heinous things yet Muslims tend to overlook these.

soto wars episode 2: clone of the attack

Excerpt from Malaysia Mirror:

Malaysian Mirror

The Anwar Ibrahim sodomy trial started on a dramatic note with the complainant, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, claiming that the Opposition Leader made him an indecent proposal.

The politician's former aide, 26, testified that on the day in question, he was instructed to go to the Desa Damansara condominium at 2.30pm to discuss working arrangements with Anwar.

Mohd Saiful further claimed that when he handed some documents to the PKR advisor, Anwar asked: "Can I f*** you?"

Anwar, 63, faces the charge of sodomising Mohd Saiful at the Desa Damansara condominium in Jalan Setiakasih, Bukit Damansara here, at between 3.01pm and 4.30pm on June 26, 2008.

Mohd Saiful, the first to take the witness' stand, began by talking about his education background, saying he quit his studies because he was not doing well.

He described his job responsibilities as personal assistant to the Opposition Leader, which included organising secret meetings with Barisan Nasional MPs.

To prove Anwar's guilt

Earlier, the prosecution team said they will prove that, on the day concerned, Mohd Saiful had gone to Unit 11-5-1 on the fifth floor of the condominium.

At that time, Mohd Saiful saw Anwar sitting alone and eating. He was allegedly sodomised by Anwar at the unit. The complainant then left the place at about 4pm.

In their opening statement, the prosecution said it will prove semen stains taken from the complainant's anus belonged to Anwar.

The prosecution also said they will prove the case with direct evidence from Mohd Saiful and forensic testimony from doctors and chemists.

Dei macha, you got brain or not? 60 year old man say he wanna fuck you, you just spread your legs and let him try your asshole izzit?

Can't use those legs and run out of there izzit?

Anwar so powerful meh? 60 year old can pwn 23 year old?

Oh but don't worry. I'm 99.9999999% sure Anwar didn't fuck you or even intended to fuck you. But the rakyat will fuck 9 you. Public perception is the number 1 winner in politics and in that sense you're fucked. Better go beg for forgiveness or God also will fuck you hard. Oh then again you dare to swear such nonsense on a holy book, in a holy place, you probably don't believe in any God in the first place. The same goes for everyone else in the prosecution team.

yet another missed call

(Post cleaned up for a more civilised rant).

1.

What I tolerate:

Giving me a missed call or dropping an sms and wanting me to call back because you ran out of credit.

Why:

It happens to anyone, even myself back when I used prepaid. With Aussie postpaid, it's now a matter of not wanting to pay extra, which is what I'm facing now, until the 7th of February.

What I DON'T tolerate:

Doing that ALL THE TIME for an entire year. That pisses me off a lot.

When I refuse to call back, he says I prioritise my other friends over him. Who the fuck does he think he is? He thinks he's some heaven sent saviour to whom I owe my soul or something?

It's not like I have unlimited money and/or no one else to talk on the phone with. Speaking of money, look at point 3 later.

2.

What I tolerate:

Checking out girls. Hot ones, pretty ones, cute ones, fun ones, friendly ones, intellectual ones, whoever.

Why:

Like most other guys, I'm heterosexual. I'm straight. So that's natural. Like most other straight guys, I appreciate beautiful women too. =)   No, I'm not homophobic, I'm just saying this out of statistics, hahaha.

What I DON'T tolerate:

Speaking of girls/women as if they are sex objects. Even worse when the girl(s) concerned are considered a friend/friends to me. That is being utterly disrespectful and not to mention shows how narrow a person is. Saying their names in obnoxious manners ALL THE TIME is very irritating too.

Calling a girl hot is one thing.

Lines like

"Everytime I see her face like wanna bang like that"

and

"Wah everytime I see her I feel horny"

is just frigging ANNOYING.

Behave like an educated man, a university student, for God's sake, not a bloody sex addict! Even within the confines of my house out of the earshot of any females...

Okay, that's even more wrong. Shit. Get the hell outta my house! lol.

Also, being so overly judgmental on people, guys or girls, leaves a very bad impression on me. One particular person is very guilty of it. Whether the people he passes his (sometimes highly ignorant) judgments on are of significance to me or not, it still gets on my nerves. A lot.

3.

What I tolerate:

Being called lucky/fortunate to study in Aussie and get the opportunity to apply for a PR.

Why:

Because that is a fact. Not everyone gets this chance. Since I am among the Malaysians who did, I decide to make full use of it, and contribute to this great nation, while also still having the intention to give something back to my own country too one day.

What I DON'T tolerate:

Being called lucky/fortunate to study in Aussie and participate in other activities without having to work part time. That wouldn't be so bad, if the person who did that wasn't such a useless bum, by:

- Failing half a year's worth of units to repeat it the following year, including the engineering final year project.

- Contributing only 5% of a final year project while the other team mate had to slog it out.

- Having inadequate knowledge of Microsoft Word (for God's sake MICROSOFT WORD!!!), and yet after being told to learn it,

- Complains that he has no time, yet he has time to talk and ask questions about old games I barely care about anymore like Diablo and Starcraft. Yes, as in those mid-90's games.

People like those have NO grounds to call me "fortunate" because of how much of their own parents' money and time they're wasting, not to mention their own time. Did I mention doing post-graduate and that means continuing to rely on parents' money? 5 years older than me and still graduating later in the same course, what a joke.

i.e. Go work to improve yourself first instead of just envying others' fortunes. You have no right to bitch about people being lucky if you put so little effort at trying to better yourself.

Look at me, I have plenty of friends who don't have to worry about jobs because of their dad's businesses. Friends who can spend money like water. Friends who have connections to royalty and other powerful figures. Yet I don't rant about THAT. That is their God-given blessing and it's good for them to have it as long as they don't oppress / harm others with it. Me? I work with what I have, which is already far more than the average 22 year old has, and make the best out of it.

4.

What I tolerate:

Differences in opinion, argued and presented in a factual manner, politely.

Why:

Such is the nature of humans. Intellectual discourse is always good, and for someone like me, the need to have more knowledge is satisfied by hearing the other sides of the story.

What I DON'T tolerate:

Ignorant statements, later covered by DENIAL or stupid ways to justify said statements upon myself pointing it out. Then again, it's just his pride, I guess. Can't admit he's wrong, so he tries to cover it up or deny it. That sounds like a certain Dr M too.

sigh....

BTW, there's an empty room in my place in Clayton available till the 20th of February, maybe 26th even. Any takers?

Really, it's preferable to having such an ignorant clown as a housemate, even for two weeks.

The part that annoys me the most is that it's the ONE SAME PERSON who transgressed the limits of my tolerance from point 1 to point 4. Why do I have to get to know such an obnoxious character?

Can't wait for him to leave the damn neighbourhood for good.

I'm a nice guy, to most people you see...that probably includes you, the reader as well. Some, unfortunately, take that for granted, like a certain Mr. Lee from Lampe Berger 2 years ago. This guy is next.

let's be superficial

You know how cartoons tend to portray the bad guys as usually ugly and the good guys as handsome, beautiful, noble-looking? Unlike many movies made for more grown-up audiences, cartoons tend not to have the concept of the charming conman or femme fatale.

Sometimes, when it comes to Malaysian politics, I felt like God has decided to go the way of cartoons, in that sense.

Let's take from a slightly reduced sample size as opposed to ALL politicians. Keep the population confined to only bespectacled Pas leaders, wearing songkok:

Ibrahim Ali also known to me as traitor / fork-tongued devil. Not to mention racist:

Khalid Abdul Samad, who, aside from being a chartered engineer, is so much more noble in character, and looks the part:

I'll let your eyes speak for themselves.

LOL.

little things in life

Two elderly (East) Asian women in the line to board a bus.

As the first of the women climbed aboard, the South Asian (Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi) looking bus driver immediately helped her by carrying the heavy groceries she had in her hands.

He then did the same for the 2nd woman after helping the first one get on her seat.

It sounds like a scene out of those typical Bangsa Malaysia (and now 1Malaysia) advertisements back home, but an advertisement it wasn't. It was happening right in front of my eyes as I was in the queue to board the bus after getting groceries at Clayton town. Australia. Not Malaysia.

Those little things in life make me wonder what Malaysia could have been... would have been. Without the devils whose efforts to divide and segregate the society have been largely successful, most unfortunately.

I feel at home now in Australia, really. It's a duplicate of the cultural melting pot that I grew up in, but morphed as I grew older. I have to admit, it's probably the closest thing (alongside other immigrant-friendly, multiracial western countries like Canada) to the Malaysia as I imagined and wanted it to be.

In primary school, racial differences in Malaysia weren't half as noticeable as they are at this age. Everyone in school was just that; the boy/girl was either in the same class, or in the same year, or different year. Most importantly, my parents never taught me to distance myself from certain schoolmates according to their race, unlike some other ignorant Malaysian parents.

As I went to high school and even more prominently, university, I realised how Malaysian society had become so segregated. That's the less saddening of the two things.

It's even sadder when people from the older generation tell me how it wasn't that way. Things were so much better in the past. What Malaysia lacked in monetary prosperity then, we had in richness of culture. A culture of, for the lack of better words, unity in diversity. Then it changed for the worse. The culture was ERODED, and let me remind you, not by Facebook or Twitter.

Whoever eroded our culture deserves quite a lot of punishment I would say, and the least we can do is ensure they rule our lives no longer. With that in mind,

Register to vote, and do your part for the country when the time comes. =)

little things on Facebook

note: Their identities have to remain secret, because of a reason not of their own fault. But rather, due to the nature of a fascist government in power.

Translation (just in case):

B: I don't like this writing. =)

A: *excerpt from the Quran, the same verse 40 Chapter 22 I quoted in the 12 January post*

B: Yup... I support what you said, indeed it's wrong to damage places of worship... but I don't support the use of Allah as god by them. Allah is Allah, god is tuhan.. the god they worship.. because from what I understand (please correct me if I'm wrong), they asked for permission to use the word Allah for the word god that they're using.. which I think can become a thorn in the flesh.. =D

A: What you understand is correct bro.. but in this matter, I don't think they even have to ask for permission.. because their god is Allah too. To say it's a thorn in the flesh I don't think it's very accurate.. is this our image, Muslims in Malaysia, oppressing other religions?

If since the distant past they have used the name of Allah, and only now they're asking for permission, and people in the peninsula (Malaysia) get mad, despite the fact they've been using it in Sabah and Sarawak, to me, this is a form of oppression towards them.. how can we spread the message that Islam defends humanity from oppression, if we ourselves oppress people who also believe in Allah?

This is merely my opinion as an observer from outside the country, I don't know in greater detail the real matter in my own country.. doesn't mean my points are extremely strong and infallible.. =)

Person B, here, sadly, is an example of the typical paranoid (Peninsula) Malay who doesn't know the history of Sabah and Sarawak enough, and make judgements from the point of view that immediately assumes Christianity (as well as Judaism) is a false religion.

Person B, however, presented his point of view in a civilised way and thus retains respect despite myself not in agreement with him.

People like person A give me hope. They are living reminders that Malaysia has hope, that our youth regardless of race consist of many people who can THINK.

And most importantly, especially for the more ignorant among you readers:

DO NOT JUDGE A PERSON'S POLITICAL VIEWS BY HIS RACE.

You have no idea how insulted I felt the morning after the 2008 elections when someone assumed I was pro-BN because of my race.

Like I said once, that's akin to saying someone with blond hair and blue eyes must support Adolf Hitler.

culture? hahaha

Rais, oh Rais... the things that come out of your mouth... they're so funny and yet sad that I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the state of Malaysia's leaders. So-called "leaders".

Let's look at our country between 1957 and 1970. Funds were devoted to building the country up, improving the infrastructure, strengthening the economy. HELPING PEOPLE WHO NEED HELP.

Now? Mega projects, twin towers, huge underutilised airports, military equipment costing over 3 times their market price, space programs. Wow, nice culture there.

Fine, let's concentrate on CULTURE. 1957-1970, when our parents were very young or were in school. Children never saw each other as Melayu, Cina and India, but just kawan-kawan (a contrast to a certain blogger whose parents tend to ask the race of his friends every time "kawan" is mentioned). Race is only ever brought up in racial jokes, which was really just to be laughed off, not the instigator of gang fights. Speaking of that, GANGS were multiracial too. Hari Raya, Chinese New Year and Deepavali open houses attracted the same crowd as far as racial composition goes. Oh, btw, people could speak English. Fluently.

Today, the only remnant remaining from that past is Sabah and Sarawak, and even that is being DANGEROUSLY eroded. By whom?

Not by Facebook or Twitter, that's for sure.

Today, we have religious LEADERS asking Muslims not to mix with non-Muslims for all sorts of fucked up reasons they pulled out of their asses. And while I haven't heard of any Jew directly harming a Malay in Malaysia, Jews worldwide are portrayed as nothing more than beasts and demons. They talk about Islam here and there, they probably forgot that prophet Muhammad himself had a Jewish neighbour (or was it an acquaintance, can't remember) and treated him the way a neighbour should be treated.

Muslims back in the days of Tunku Abdul Rahman were faithful ones, as many still are, today. However, back in those days, their faith was strong enough not to be confused when another religion also calls God "Allah". Back in those days, they also remembered prophet Muhammad's final sermon, in which he famously mentioned "No Arab is superior to a non-Arab and no non-Arab is superior to an Arab". They also had the logical sense not to believe in silly conspiracy theories such as Christians supposedly using "holy water" to convert them and whatnot. Oh and by the way, Christians were not seen to be some evil cult trying to win followers back then. That was the culture then, but apparently not anymore. It has eroded. Yes, Muslim culture has been eroded in Malaysia, but by whom?

Not Facebook or Twitter, that's for sure.

Back in those days, people bought kuihs from the Malay makcik, cooking oil from the Chinese tauke and cendol from the Indian macha. Now, we have Malays going on around insisting that those of their kind only buy "keluaran Bumiputera" items. This goes for the other side, too. I've personally met those who choose which shop to photocopy their books at just from the race of the owner, "Help Chinese la, dowan to go to that Indian shop". Not just some ah beng and ah lian, mind you. A university STUDENT (now graduate). Yes, Malaysian culture has been eroded throughout these years, but by whom?

Not Facebook or Twitter, that's for sure.

Want to know why I despise BN so much now?

Want to know why they are no more than Nazis who misuse Islam in my eyes? (and by that extension, worse than Nazis, because Nazis at least didn't say they did it for God)

To suggest that I support them because of them giving me some "special rights" shit is akin to suggesting that a white person support the Nazis, the KKK and the apartheid South African government.

That in itself,

is being

FUCKING

RACIST.

And has never failed to make me so pissed off.

So let us, as Malaysians, together unite and destroy the lowlifes who have really eroded our real culture.

If we, the rakyat, can't punish them, then God most certainly will. That, I guess, is the consolation of believing in one, although this whole article isn't exactly an argument against atheism. Any reasonable atheist will realise that tyrants will eventually fall, and many do not meet pleasant deaths. Neither do I wish pleasant deaths for the tyrants.
